1. What matters most to viewers is not what a text makes them think but how it makes them feel.

What matters most to viewers of V for Vendetta directed by James McTeigue in 2005 is a lot more than feelings but what it makes the viewers think, creating very powerful ideas. The film leaves the viewer with a wider view of the world, realizing that the world is being controlled by the laws dictated by governments and exerting more power and control than we realize. Through McTeigue’s dystopian literature displayed a powerful warning through the use of cinematography of montage, dialogue, and symbolism in order to encourage his viewers to think for themselves.

“I don’t want you to think like me. I just want you to think” – V

The first scene that grabs the viewers attention and challenges them to think rather than feel is the Domino montage effect. McTeigue compels the viewers to think for themselves and show how powerful one idea can lead to a chain of events. McTeigue’s montage cuts between scenes, combining rioting in the streets and falling dominoes foreshadowing a chain of events which V has planned to occur. The high angle shot to show the domino form of a ‘V’ displays how important his message of warning is for us to embrace.
