Spielberg’s intentions of the Spider scene is to show the negative impact of technology on society. Technology is tricky you need to be updated with whats new to be able to be i sync with it. Can be used as a powerful tool if in the right hands for good or for bad. The technology in this scene is impressive and that is only a small glimpse of what is to come. Technology can construct the world into a war machine if we let it and stand by.  The pre crimes aircraft  is shown as a powerful subject to the enhance the amount of power pre crime has though technology. The aircraft and pre crime guards are covered in blue lights – a sign of technology. The guards walk through the hall, this shows the authority the guards have over the situation about to occur. The audience is now encouraged to feel as if they’re apart of the scene by being forcefully pushed back as the guards walk forward. The spiders as their steadily crawling up the stairs, the low angle enhances the size of their body’s creating a bigger impact of their first appearance. Spiders were a deliberate chosen of animal by Spielberg, spiders represent fear and come across scary to people. Zooming in and out from a bird’s eye view as the spider’s search and check for ID from each individual. The camera shot zooms in each time the spider investigates the human’s body, to make the spider appear larger and zooms out as the spider leaves the human’s body to make the human appear smaller. Spielberg is demonstrating how technology has control over people in their daily lives and they obey through fear. People are becoming familiar with their surroundings and not being aware when change has occurred. Causing people to naturally adapt to the change without notice and fit their life into the society that surrounds them. The spiders work as a team similar to the how to the guards would. Technology is being shown how humanized it has become. They will look at each other as if their communicating and signal each other. Blue light is on the spiders and follows through wherever they go through the scene. This is a negative impact because technology will get to highly advanced and will become uncontrollable through lack of knowledge . You have to have access to technology to have knowledge about it and this is how the society divides themselves from those that do and that don’t.

  1. – your opening sentence says what Spielberg’s intention is…but you don’t state what means he uses to achieve this.
    – You’ve listed each shot used; try to avoid writing your para in this sense – create more flow between each sentence, otherwise it feels bullet-pointed.
    – Remember that the task calls for TWO CINEMATOGRAPHY TECHNIQUES working together – make these clear.

    Hi Soph,

You raised some good points in here. I want you to now consider:
    – a societal response – how does the text reflect society?
    – developing your sentence crafting and the fluidity of ideas – it was a bit jumpy between ideas and sentences were almost bullet-pointed in feel
    – Give more Y moments throughout
    – Be more pointed in the use of the TWO TECHNIQUES TOGETHER to demonstrate the director’s purpose.

Keep this in mind when you actually attack your 3.9.

    🙂
